Our values, chosen together by children, parents and staff are:

compassion

determination

honesty

aspiration

responsibility

Our School Values

Our school values are embedded strongly into our ethos and philosophy.  These values underpin our daily life in school and high regard is paid to the commitment of a safe, strong and inclusive Christian learning community. The evidence of these values in practice can be seen clearly in our interactions, communications and behaviours.  Our values are taught, illustrated and modelled in all we do.  All curriculum areas provide a vehicle for furthering understanding of these concepts and, in particular, our RE and PSHE lessons provide excellent opportunities to deepen and develop understanding both explicitly and implicitly.  Our children clearly embrace these concepts with enthusiasm and demonstrate a good understanding of their application to their own lives.

The Department for Education also states that there is a need:

“To create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs”.

The Department for Education defines British Values as follows:

  • Respect for democracy and support or participation in the democratic process

  • Respect for the basis on which the law is made and applies in England

  • Support for equality of opportunity for all

  • Support and respect for the liberties of all within the law

  • Respect for and tolerance of different faiths and religious and other beliefs

Our own school values support and illustrate these values.  We aim to nurture our children on their journey through life so they can grow into safe, caring, democratic, responsible and tolerant adults who make a positive difference to their own British society and to the world.

We encourage our children to be creative, unique, open-minded, collaborative and independent individuals, respectful of themselves and of others in our school, our local community and the wider world.  At Berry Pomeroy Parochial CE Primary School we value the diversity of backgrounds of all pupils, families and wider school community.

Our curriculum takes a global approach to learning by introducing themes from the perspective of other people in other countries.
